Pantry Innovation Funds Wake County Food Security Plan Updates

Communal Gardens

We provided $63,800 for 10 gardens in Wake County who wanted to expand their offering of fresh local produce to the neighbors and communities. The projects will expand production capacity, but also create more gathering space in areas with fewer green spaces. The harvest of these gardens is shared with members of the community most in need, or with a local food pantry.

Food Pantry Innovations

We provided $215,584 for 19 food pantries in Wake County to expand their operations both in quality and quantity. These projects will increase the number of vehicles available to pantries to make their own pickups, expand hours of operation to hours more convenient for pantry clients with busy work schedules, and most of all expanding cold storage capacity with over $101,000 of funding. More cold storage at pantries will improve the quality of food received, as it will allow for much greater storage of fresh product.
